Polish Women in Mathematics, Faculty of Applied Mathematics of the AGH University of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Rzeszow are pleased to announce a conference On the Trail of Women in Mathematics - in Honor of Sofia Kowalewska that will be held on August 31 - September 2, 2019 in  Krakow at The AGH University of Science and Technology (Faculty of Applied Mathematics, Buildings A4, B7), al. A. Mickiewicza 30.

The main purpose of the Conference is to provide a forum for exchange of ideas and present the latest research. This conference is the second of a series of conference aimed at promoting the achievement and merits of women whose research, professional activity and publications have made significant contribution to the development of  science, mainly in mathematics and related sciences.

The conference topics will cover multiple issues related to PDE and their applications, analysis of compressible and incompressible fluid mechanics, general relativity theory, kinetic theory, probabilistic approaches, etc. Real issues, described by means of the continually developed mathematical apparatus, which are partial differential equations, constitute key elements, and even the basis for the development of an extremely large number of areas - not only technology, but also medicine, biology, meteorology, social sciences and other sciences. The conference will also  concentrate  on pioneering Kowalewska role as a female mathematician.                                                                                            

The conference is also intended to be one of the elements of the celebration of the 100th Jubilee of AGH, the Year of Mathematics and the 100th Anniversary of the Polish Mathematical Society.
